Whew! Ethnic girls on fashion magazine covers wasn’t limited to an Italian Vogue phase. Sessilee Lopez, Chanel Iman, Jourdan Dunn (sporting a tiny model’s preggers bump) and Arlenis Sosa take the cover of  i-D magazine’s September issue. Lady Gaga on “The View” on location at Walt Disney Studios. We’re both amazed and in awe that Lady Gaga has gained mainstream fame with her drag queen antics but here she acts demure and behaved while the ladies of The View grill her. Anna Wintour on the Late Show with David Letterman last night. The “ice queen” actually came off semi-approachable and threw in some (practiced?) humor. She poked fun at her reputation by telling Letterman that Vogue isn’t “only run by senior citizens.” On her reputation she brought a few chuckles by saying, “I read in the New York Times this week that I’m an ice queen, I’m the sun king, I’m an alien fleeing from District 9 and I’m a dominatrix. I reckon that makes me lukewarm royalty with a whip from outer space. What do you think?” But it was when Letterman deadpanned if the perfectly coiffed editor had ever put anybody in a headlock that Anna made the audience laugh by saying, “Maybe you?” Well played. Good news fashion die-hards. Full Frontal Fashion is making a return for New York Fashion Week. The cult TV program has been bought by Sundance and will start providing fashion content straight from the runways. But instead of only showcasing runway shows, the relaunch will include a mix of television programming and online content. We’re hoping the extra content won’t dilute the show’s fashion commitment. Michael Jackson may have preferred designer duds from the likes of Givenchy and Balmain, but for his clothing line collaboration, he made the peculiar choice of Christian Audigier. The late King of Pop had created looks that were obviously influenced by his sartorial classics: red Thriller type jacket, bedazzled gloves and military inspired wear. The Today Show guesstimates that the prices of the pieces will increase posthumously. Word is the MJ estate is scrambling for cash and has been pushing for the merchandise deals to be approved. In London, at the home of Gareth Pugh’s first assistant, pattern cutter, studio manager and all around handy-man. The Selby caught Henderson McCue in his colorful home before the madness of fashion week descends with his flatmate Gary Card, set designer and illustrator.  The toy-filled space is as vibrantly hued as Pugh’s palette is stark, but the playfulness and contrast of shapes are just as inspiring. What better way to beat the city heat than to escape to the Hamptons for the weekend. Renee Zellweger thought so too and lounged at the Wainscot house of Brian Bantry this past Saturday, where her red carpet go-to Carolina Herrera hosted a screening of her upcoming film “My One and Only.” Set in the 1950s, Zellweger was just the leading lady to carry off the polished fashions. With Mad Men premiere last night, we may just have to invest in a Betty Draper outfit asap. Continue…

The blonde-haired Sozzani casts Linda Evangelista on the Italian Vogue September cover in a retro, Irving-Penn style black and white shot, just further hammering home that women models, versus skinny teenage things, are back.
