GREG LAUREN ‘ALTERATION’

With a last name like “Lauren” it must be tough to get away from fashion. As such, artist Greg Lauren (and Ralph’s nephew) took the subject head-on by hand-sewing Japanese paper into life-size shirts, shoes, jackets — an entire paper wardrobe– for his show “Alteration.” But that’s not to say a famous last name doesn’t help when bringing out the stars. At last week’s opening, there were plenty of notables around including Gerard Butler, Parker Posey and Lauren Bush. But it’s always better to see the art in detail after the opening when there aren’t so many people nor wine refills around. Here’s a closer look at the strikingly real paper pieces. Continue…

We were wondering what Juliette Binoche has been doing since “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” and now the lovely actress is exploring another artistic genre by teaming up with famous choreographer and dancer Akram Khan to create a new dance theater. Sponsored by Hermes and SG Private Banking, the innovative collaboration pushes both performing artists into new realms: Binoche has never danced before and Akram has never sang and acted. For those able to skip town once New York Fashion Week passes as quickly as it descended, stop by David LaChapelle’s “American Jesus” show at the Sebastian Guinness Gallery in Dublin, Ireland.
