With many in the art world across the pond for the Frieze art fair in London, it was an intimate but well-edited crowd that braved a rain-soaked evening last Thursday for the Steven Charles fete at Marlborough Gallery’s Glass Houses. Guests that included Dalia Oberlander, Chessy Wilson, Casey Fremont and William Heath took in the view from the lofty far west Chelsea space featuring, aptly, all glass windows with a sweeping view of the city and New Jersey. More than one guest noted how beautiful Jersey looked from afar. With the stellar view and atmosphere to spare, guests lingered over mojitos, wine and mini burgers. Sally Mann is a photographer who gathers her inspiration from material close to home.  So it shouldn’t be surprising for Mann fans that she has evolved from her infamously personal views of her children to her husband Larry’s nude form in her new show, Proud Flesh, on exhibit at Gagosian Gallery’s Madison Avenue location until October 31. Rather than producing a series of sharply focused muscular portraits, Mann illustrates every inch of Larry’s body as soft and sumptuous folds of skin, which are sagged and wrinkled due to the effects of aging.
