Call it the Great Recession aftereffects, but heritage brands are still going strong. And considering how the economy still has all of us rankled, investing in something tried and true just seems right. Oregon-based 140-year old Pendleton who earlier collaborated with cooler than thou boutique Opening Ceremony is back and this time with something green-minded and perfectly fit for the urban set: a bicycle project with Worksman Cycles. Worksman boasts quite the historical pedigree itself; the company is the oldest U.S. manufacturer of industrial-strength delivery bikes. The titanic duo are putting their specialties together for one very special bike available exclusively online at Urban Outfitters come October 4. Going for $750 a pop in black or white, the cruiser design has Pendleton’s trademark Native American prints. “Chief Joseph was Nez Perce, a people renowned for their horsemanship,” says Robert Christnacht, who heads up Pendleton’s Home and Blanket divisions. “By having these bicycles painted so elegantly in this famous blanket pattern, it almost represents the new urban steed,” adds Christnacht.
