Pharrell Williams and Monica Bellucci Take on Moscow

Staff

Rapper/fashion acolyte Pharrell Williams swapped his Miami sunny environs for something a bit more cool. Williams hopped a flight to Moscow to attend a Dolce & Gabbana and Martini Gold-hosted dinner at the Italian Embassy in Villa Berg last night. The jet set crew, which included the eternally luscious Monica Bellucci clad in black Dolce & Gabbana black lace and satin, followed up with an after-party (of course)  at the city’s buzzy Garage Centre of Contemporary Art, where Pharrell performed a set, the DJ was pumping some serious house and there was a trippy digital art installation. If you weren’t there to nosh on caviar and sip on champagne (or admire Pharrell’s sleek tux), we have the takes on what you missed – think of it like a prep to your undoubtedly glamorous weekend. Constance Jablonski’s March Editorial Madness

Chris Peake

With her silky complexion and clear blue eyes, Constance Jablonski is always a sight for fashion week weary eyes during the shows. Now the runway regular is getting into editorial mode with this gorgeous “China Syndrom” shoot for German Vogue this month. Lensed by Alexi Lubomirski and styled by Christiane Arp, the cover and multi-page inside spread is lush with color. And no surprise there, Marc Jacob’s East-inflected Louis Vuitton Spring 2011 collection is prominently featured. Turns out March is Jablonski’s busy month. She teamed up with Lubormirski for a Vogue Russia shoot and is also one of three cover girls for W Korea.  Continue…

Fall 2011 Outerwear Highlights

Bee-Shyuan Chang

Surely the past two years have been a lesson to even the hottest of designers: women spend on accessories and outerwear. While we have a soft spot for handbags and a bold statement 5-inch heel we can barely teeter in, the latter category of ready-to-wear is a particularly smart investment. Taken care of, coats can literally last forever. Musing on the Fall 2011 collections that closed with its Paris finale this week, we were particularly enthralled by a wide selection of gorgeous outerwear pieces. Here’s a roundup of our favorites. Redhead Model Magdalena Jasek Making Waves

Chris Peake

There’s seems to be a stunning redhead every month, but whether they’re natural crimsons or died strawberry hues, we can’t get enough. Take for example Marilyn up-and-comer Magdalena Jasek. Her flaming locks turned heads in this March 2011 Vogue Brasil editorial lensed by Jacques Decqueker (stylist: Yasmine Sterea).  Aside from going with the 70s-tinged flower power story nicely, we also like the alabaster (no need for self-tanner) spring-ready skin.  Thoughts? Givenchy Buzz: Fall 2011 Collection

Staff

Designer Riccardo Tisci isn’t just hitting his stride designing for Givenchy (though the following video of his Fall 2011 collection is also testament to this growing prowess),  it seems timing is playing a part too. Rumors are swirling on Tisci’s possible appointment at Dior. In any case, if you weren’t in Paris to check out a front row of Nicole Richie ensconced in leather, Liv Tyler with impossibly shiny hair and fashion editors, bien sur, get a taste of the excitement via this buzzy YouTube bit. Rodarte’s First West Coast Solo Show Opening at MOCA

Chris Peake

Black Swan’s costumes may have been snubbed by the Academy Awards, but designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte are garnering a win with their Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles exhibit slated to open tomorrow, March 4.  Curated by MOCA Associate Curator Rebecca Morse and designed by Alexandre de Betak, Rodarte: State of Matter features conceptual vignettes showcasing the sisters’ creations as sculptures. It’s the first West Coast solo show for the designers, UC Berkeley grads who’re known for their artsy and often dreamy creations. Amongst the featured pieces include looks from the Fall 2008 and Spring 2010 runway shows, as well as those Black Swan dancers’ costumes that got so much controversial press earlier this year. A MAN'S WORLD

Spring’s Black Sheep

Bee-Shyuan Chang

Last we caught up with Toronto-based photographer Cory Vanderploeg, he was toying with shadows, sharp lines and black and white imagery for his Fall 2010 editorial Plaid. Now the talented lensman is developing his oeuvre  with the help of stylist Heidi Ondrusek in this dynamic Spring editorial. Once again there’s his trademark crisp images, but there’s rich pops of color here and there. Check it out and let us know what you think. Continue…
