Despite today’s black clouds and rain, Art Basel excitement still rippled through Miami as locals and tourists alike continued to be absolutely frenzied with attending the shows and parties of this art weekend.
Seventeen fairs are running concurrent with the main fair on Miami Beach. The greatest stand out so far was Pulse Miami who shined in both in scope of work and shear size. The galleries showing there revealed a taste for lansdcape photos with washed out colors (Massimo Vitali was on repeat) and intricately abstract paintings with blinding florescent colors. I was excited to see the fantastic paintings of Allison Shulnik, who recently collaborated with Grizzly Bear on their video for Ready, Able, on display (watch video below).
Champagne and art collectors do mix, and mix well. Miami rain showers couldn’t dampen the excitement for Art Basel a – and not one party reveler mentioned the economy.
Pulse Miami is open to the public through December 6 at:
The Ice Palace 1400 N. Miami Ave
