TOP TEN SUMMER SCRUBS

July 21, 2009

We love that summer tan, but after an hour (or hours) too long in the sun we’re not exactly the best example of tanned and dewy skin. Time to resort to some serious scrubbing. Since we’re all watching our wallets and skimping on spa appointments, at-home scrubs are the way to go. We’ve done some of the homework for you and compiled a top ten list of our favorite summer scrubs.

10.

Caudalie Merlot Scrub $35 at Sephora.com

Paraben and sulfate free, French brand Caudalie’s Merlot scrub is minty and smooth and uses grapeseed oil to hydrate. Even if drinking too much Merlot isn’t good for your skin, find some solace in vinotherapie. We did.

9.

DDF Pumice Acne Scrub $35 at Sephora.com

For those with problem skin, a dose of good ol’ benzoyl peroxide should do the trick. DDF’s acne scrub uses a dose of pumice powder and 2.5% benzoyl peroxide that will beat those nasty back breakouts.

8.

Pond’s Fresh Start Daily Exfoliating Cleanser for Face $6.79 at drugstore.com

This drugstore find is for the face and is surprisingly gentle without overstripping. Pond’s used water-activated microbeads and China Clay to both purify and exfoliate. When we tested it out it was like a mask and scrub in one and ringing in under $10 we were suffice it to say, one happy customer.

7.

Dylan’s Candy Bar, Coconut bon bon scrub, $20 at sephora.com

One word: yum. This creamy sugar scrub wasn’t necessarily the strongest or used the latest technology, but throw in a wonderful tropical scent and we were wooed.

6.

Ren Moroccan Rose Otto scrub, $60 at spacenk.com

Ren uses natural products and their signature Moroccan Rose Otto scent and mixes it with olive oil, almond oil and caffeine to give you a scrub that exfoliates and tones. Talk about beach ready!

5.

Alfred & Hoff Microdermabrasion for Face, $80 at Bergdorf Goodman

You don’t become exclusively offered at Bergdorf Goodman for nothing. Alfred and Hoff’s microdermabrasion gives you dermatologist office results at home. The diamond-shaped magnesium oxide crystals don’t cut up the skin and evens out sun-blotched complexions and diminishes wrinkles if used regularly.

4.

La Mer “The Body Refiner” $110 at Nordstrom.com

La Mer usually comes more expensive so we were curious to try this body exfoliator treatment. As it turns out the precious formula fortified with 1.75 carats of pure diamond powder and rich in hyaluronic acid truly is amazing. We only knock points for the price, but this is one of the cases when the price is worth it.

3.

Kiehl’s Ultra Moisturizing Buffing Cream with Scrub Particles, $14.50 at BlueMercury.com

Made for the face or body, this multi-tasker is for those with drier skin. With natural oils and scrub particles, the thick cream is whipped for prime absorption.

2.

Natura Bisse Glyco Skin, $88 at barneys.com

Ok so technically this is not a scrub, but it does wonders as an exfoliator and that’s what matters! Natura Bisse has basically perfected the Glycolic Acid formula and now offers it in a spray-on body lotion called Glyco-skin. Spray it on heels, elbows, knees and even acne prone areas or ingrown hairs. Call it the wonder potion.

1.

Dr. Brandt’s Microdermabrasion Creams for Face and Body, $75 and$45 at www.drbrandtskincare.com

And the winner! There’s a reason that Dr. Brandt is still the go-to for all those New York socialite beauties. His at-home microdermabrasion creams for face and body are the 1-2 punch for scaly, summer skin. The pharmaceutical crystals actually felt like we were in the doctor’s office without braving the spinning microdermabrasion tool. Madonna and Gwyneth have both gone to Dr. Brandt, now we can too.
