Pretty boy Andrej Pejic

We read in WWD today that 19-year old Andrej Pejic is the latest androgynous “it” model. But it seems that Pejic, despite his tall drink of water blond good looks, may be as trendy as Lea T. or Martin Cohn before him. If three makes a trend, then we think 10 says that there’s more to this gender-bender thing than previously suspected. Here, a round-up of our top 10 androgynous beauties.

Stella Tennant

The best thing about Stella is that she can really swing both ways. She can rock a frilly dress with tomboyish panache or go all-out masculine.

Marcel Castenmiller

Lithe Canadian beauty Marcel Castenmiller has nailed that moody, angsty gaze, but it’s his interesting juxtaposition of masculine and feminine that keeps us looking.

Andrej Pejic

This model du jour are prettier than some of the girls we’ve seen backstage, which is exactly why the Serbian-Australian is attracting the attention of big name photogs like Steven Meisel and Mert & Marcus.

An Oost

This early 2000 catwalker could be quite the chameleon. In person, she was quite the feminine girl, but on camera, An could turn on a gaze that reminds us of Marcel Castenmiller (see above).

Amanda Moore

Another early gender barrier breaker was Amanda Moore. The dark-tressed stunner recently had something of a comeback, landing this 2006 cover of Numero.

Jenny Shimizu

Famous for an alleged lesbian affair with Angelina Jolie, this Japanese-American made waves in the fashion world too with her close crop and CK ads.

Kristen McMenamy

One of our all-time favorites, this 45-year old is still shaking things up in fashion-dom with regular gorgeous spreads in Vogue Italia and covers like this Fall 2010 i-D shot below.

Martin Cohn

Part-time model Martin Cohn hangs out with socialites and goes to school, but that doesn’t lessen the impact of his distinctive look. He closed the Spring 2010 show for womenswear designer Elise Overland.

Eleonora Bose

Another one for the books, Spanish model Bose has attitude to spare and it’s translated to edgy editorials. Here, she’s quite the David Bowie lookalike.

Lea T.

She made Internet waves when she was featured as part of the Givenchy Fall 2010 campaign cast. It certainly helps that the transgender model is Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci’s former personal assistant, but from the looks of these close-ups, we expect more work in Lea’s future.
