Calvin Klein has been making big moves lately. The menswear, designed by Italo Zucchelli, showed in New York for the first time in years. Francisco Costa’s Fall/Winter 2009 collection was at once fluid, textural and sexy and Eva Mendes is the best Calvin Klein model in years with curves you’d actually kill for.
As for last night’s Oscars, the event was the usual exercise in designer branding. From Marchesa to Galliano to a Tim Gunn and Valentino chat, the shimmery sequins, fitted bodices and Cinderella skirts were all very predictably red-carpet, which is why when Natalia Vodianova showed up the Vanity Fair party in a bondage-inspired Calvin Klein number, heads were turning. Welcome to the new, tougher American sportswear.
