Last Friday (July 10) at the opening of  Nooka’s pop-up shop at Den, laid-back fashionistas and hipsters spilled out of the store onto the street to enjoy a beautiful summer Friday in the city.  Owners of Den, Eddy Chai and Paul Birardi of Odin and Pas de Deux, were mingling with friends and guests on the crowded sidewalk.  Inside Den, Nooka founder Matthew Waldman held court showing off his new line of lifestyle accessories, collectible objects, and complete range of timepieces, including limited edition colors.

I chatted with Waldman about his aesthetics, vision and the best part: his new futuristic belts.  Looking like a mix between a rave and Star Trek, the candy-colored rubber had a top notch feature that pleasantly snapped open.  With a lightning press of the side buttons Waldman snapped open the belt within seconds.  Seems to be the best kind of quickie accessory, if you catch my drift.

Speaking of drifts, I got a whiff of his new fragrance, “The Future Distilled,” a collaboration between Waldman and perfumer Pierre-Constantin Gueros.  The fragrance had a refined simplicity with Japanese Yuzu fading into a sophisticated sensuality with notes of pink pepper, vintage leather and musk.  The fragrance is transgender as are all of his products.  As Waldman said, it’s all about expressing your individuality.

I walked away with a kick-ass gift bag that included the new fragrance and a mini Nooka Nooka toy figurine. Of course, while I was there, had to stop in Pas de Deux and pick myself up a little Alexander Wang dress.  All in a summer Friday.

When: Opening today, July 10, through Sunday, August 16

Where: Nooka Pop-up at Den, 330 East 11th Street, (between 1st and 2nd avenues); 212-475-0079.
