FUTURE CLASSICS©

If you work in the industry, chances are you work with a Brit. From PR to make-up to editorial (ahem, Ms. Wintour), the British have their hand in more than one fashionable enterprise. But where else right now are there more exciting young contemporary designers? Louise Goldin? Amazing. KTZ? Love it.  Enter FUTURE CLASSICS©, a London based contemporary line by artist, musician and designer Julie Wilkins that cues into the downtown girl and her wants: namely a casual stand-out piece that is multi-functional without looking like you’ve overturned your closet to look cool.

Probably because she’s the cooler older sister you never had, Wilkins has deconstructed soft knit pieces and incorporated artsy prints and color combos so that you never seem like you’ve just stepped out of a Forever 21 box.  With the idea of “modern vintage”, the label has gained a loyal following since its early 2000 days and 4 New Generation sponsorships. There was a brief label hiatus in 2006 when Wilkins took some time off to record an album, but the creative spirit is back and kicking as the Fall/Winter 2008 pieces trickle into stores.

Word is that Standard Deviation is having a wallet friendly sale on FUTURE CLASSICS©’s Spring 2008 pieces. If you are one lucky girl and happen to be in London, stop by their sample sale this Thursday and Friday.
