IO IPSE IDEM BY ROMEO GIGLI

Romeo Gigli is out to dress the “woman in search of a new world,” and perhaps he is not so far off. He showed tailored-down men’s suiting with nipped in waists and accentuated shoulders that were a softer, more wearable take on the eighties Mugler trend that has dominated the Paris collections. The coats were particularly standout, often in circular shapes and flattering inverse pleats staring high on the waist.

The models played out choreographed movements that only highlighted their ballerina figures and smartly, the clothes. A model would hold out her arm and display a brightly colored filmy blouse peeking beneath the slightly shorter sleeves. The effect was pretty and sensible, if only he had left out the ruched skirts. Some eighties trends just aren’t ripe for revival.
