Talk about the new American guard. Marc Jacobs was just as influential as ever with a collection hinting at a mishmash of Americana and Victoriana. Perhaps reflecting Jacobs’ own personal life, the mood was entirely more adult than in seasons past. Plus it doesn’t hurt to have both Madonna and Lady Gaga batting for you in front row. Meanwhile Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte are definitely coming into their own as far as a branded look is concerned, and this season their pieced together, winding and swirling dresses were cast in a darker tribal tone. While some of the dresses had a similar silhouette to last season, the sisters focused more on line this go-around with strips of leather or knit crossing the body in a lattice. And Michelle Obama fave Thakoon’s collection was as easy-to-wear as ever, with many a colorful print sure to woo a stylish girl on a Spring day.
