I went to an amazing Danish Christmas party this past weekend, whereupon deep in conversation with a stylish Dane over cups of gløgg, we completely agreed Henrik Vibskov is a genius. While labels like Staerk, Ivan Grundahl and Noir have transformed Copenhagen into a fashion hothouse for perfect draping, clean lines and cultured minimalism, Vibskov is the unpredictable one-eyed jack showing everything from outlandish men’s tights to a simple double lapel black cardigan. Carrying on the Danish torch for sometimes crazy, sometimes breathtaking fashion, is the art and fashion collective Moonspoon Saloon. Created by collaborators Sara Sachs, Tal R., Noam Griegst and Melanie Buchhav, Moonspoon debuted an anything-goes, 14-piece collection of patchwork onesies, ballooning parkas and artfully decorated tops for Spring/Summer 2009.
Sure some of the pieces have the potential to be stare-inducing and finger-pointing, but you have to applaud the line’s unabashed anti-commercialism: the collaboration will only last to create 99 looks total and each piece is produced 99 times, numbered and interpreted by the individual textile worker to their choosing. Look out for their accompanying individually painted hangers at Dover Street Market in London who has dedicated a special section of the store for the creations. If not for the fashion, then for the art, keep an eye out come February 4-8, 2009 for Moonspoon Saloon’s sophomore collection that’s sure to spawn more editorial frenzy.
