Lest we sound too much of a resolutionist, the old mantra New Year, New You could pop at any moment from any number of fashion and beauty mags. Still, the sense of a clean slate can be as refreshing as a mint julep on a sweaty summer day — yes, we’re daydreaming about hotter weather in this NYC cold streak . So we’re cleaning our closets early by tossing out some forgettable items and throwing in some stylish picks to ring in the decade.
The 70s Are Coming
It was only a matter of time before those bodycon dresses, spiky studs and sharp shoulders took a backseat to flowier, and thankfully more forgiving shapes. A rich brown shoulder bag with some fringe is the perfect way to transition decades.

A Spot of Color
Doomsday news and wearing all black is just depression overload. A bit of color therapy will pep things up. Keeping with the 70s revival, this kimono dress has print and color in an eye-catching combo.

THE CLOG-HEEL
Flats are great for everyday, but when it comes to nighttime trysts, a bit of lift can go a long way. The latest round of heels are a comfy if not clunky clog-heel hybrid. If Chanel and Louis Vuitton both showcased the wooden-heeled numbers, it’s probably a safe fashion investment. Plus this nubuck edition comes from No. 6, one of our favorites stores in NYC, who saw the clog trend coming from clod-hopping miles away.

Statement Shades
The best kind of eyewear are the kind that make you look like a movie star. A bit cliche, but who can’t find a bit of romantic mystery in some old school tortoiseshell frames that would look great in a drop-top convertible paired with an Hermes head scarf?

SOMETHING AFFORDABLE
2009 was the year of the great recalibration. Prices were soaring out of control and value meets quality was something nearly extinct. Time to reel back those prices with some good day-to-day options that operate as wardrobe multi-taskers. This simple cardigan adds a bit visual interest with the ombre dot print. Plus the blue and white palette makes it an easy transition from work to play.

ARTSY ACCESSORIES
The outfit is in the details and while we’re keen to mix up a few mass merch items with more luxurious duds, accessories need to be all their own. An artful minimalist ring or a handcrafted collar necklace should do the trick.
