“We were conscious of what we were saying for the first five minutes,” Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler says with a laugh on the being filmed for Sundance Channel’s Full Frontal relaunch. At a private preview screening at the Norwood in NYC last night, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler and Nathalie Rykiel celebrated the launch with fans and friends including Gossip Girl Leighton Meester, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Genevieve Jones, Lorenzo Martone, Rachel Zoe and Lauren Santo Domingo of Vogue.
Called “The Day Before” the newly redesigned Full Frontal feels more like a reality television documentary with its insider’s look at how a fashion show actually comes together. The episodes are surprisingly revealing and often with a dose of humor. The accessories designer for Proenza Schouler deadpans that every model this season is a size 41 shoe and that there must be something in the water in Eastern Europe, while Nathalie Rykiel is visibly stressed over a technical malfunction for Sonia Rykiel’s 40th Anniversary.
“With video, you can cut and edit someone into any sort of person. But we did it because we trusted Loic [Prigent] as the director,” Jack McCollough explains.
The show will officially premiere tonight at 10pm, and coincide with the Full Frontal blog launch.
But on the eve of New York Fashion Week, the fashionable crowd already had their mind set on the upcoming season.
Lazaro gave us a hint of what’s to come: “We’re exploring color this season. Not be optimistic or pessimistic, but color for the sake of color.” Stay tuned.
