Amidst depressing fashion news such as Bill Blass shutting down shop and Mischa Barton’s new headband line, it has been difficult lately to get excited about fashion. Much like a sweaty yoga session, perhaps this firestorm has a similar purpose: to burn off the excess. What we are left with then are designers with talent and lines with a vision. That is the hope at least. Along with our shopping mix of consignment pickings, sample sales and thrift finds, special editions offer a wallet-deserving look. Late graffiti artist Stephen Sprouse’s collaboration with Louis Vuitton, was one of the early art world and luxury wear love affairs. The result was handbags and other accessories that today are still collectible–just check out Ebay.
For Spring/Summer 2009, LV designer Marc Jacobs, has smartly capitalized off the nostalgia for Sprouse’s artwork by issuing the Stephen Sprouse Tribute line. With Sprouse’s trademark graffiti brush stroke print and artful roses coupled with the iconic LV logo, the line stands out as something recognizable, unique and like true artwork, undeniably awesome.
