In a sea of simple sheaths, sedate necklines and plain tees, the only way to stand out (literally) from a crowd is with a pair of death-defying, statement heels. A couple seasons ago when gravity-challenging footwear first surfaced, I read something like, “Our shoe designs were inspired by the architectural construction and curves of Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid.” All that high-falutin descriptive talk is out the window this season, as shoes ranging from gigantic fur pom poms to carved away heels have stormed the runways. Young favorites include Alejandro Ingelmo (fresh from a CFDA nomination) and Brit Nicholas Kirkwood. Watch for latticework, cut-outs and laces to continue the trend through to Spring.
