For designer Wolfgang Joop, it was time to go back to the fundamentals–well at least in the school of Russian Suprematism, an art movement founded by Kasimir Malevich that was based on fundamental geometric forms. Blouses took on squares and jackets featured beautifully constructed shoulders. Joop also used several graphical prints, namely flowy dresses in stripes and checks.

Perhaps the best part was the entire proportion of the looks. An exaggerated top hat capped off a black and white striped hooded dress worn under a substantial black double-breasted coat, while the cropped trousers and tights were kept slim. It was the kind of thought to proportion and tension between graphic elements that would make an artist like Malevich (who found power in a black square against a white background) proud.
