Tough times have created some interesting reactions. Some have gone the way of mass market via collaborations with giant retailers, but a pleasantly surprising craft movement is giving us something inspiring to write about. Hermosa Beach-based Yuki Matsuda’s Yuketon is an homage to leather craft. With handmade footwear and accessories sourced from U.S. leather artisans far and wide, the collection has that “Red Wing” utilitarian sensibility but with an extra touch that can only be said for expertise married with an eye for design. Now the collection is getting some well-deserved attention across the pond. Dover Street Market in London is the latest to pick up the label. We’re just championing for a women’s collection.
