What does an established Swedish musician do when they need to shake things up for a new project? Well, how about recording an album in turbulent Pakistan, drawing from local influences and supported by local musicians to mix things up. That is precisely what Stockholm based recording artist Taken by Trees (née Victoria Bergsman) had in mind. After a career highlighted with recordings with indie music stars such as The Concretes and Peter Bjorn & John, Bergsman decided to head east and track down the flutes and drum rhythms of Pakistani music that has influenced her so strongly. Her second album appropriately named East of Eden was released on September 7th. The album contains today’s Song of the Day offering from Taken by Trees and gives an honest glimpse into the beautiful musical fusion her travels created.
