We’ve always had a soft spot for Swedish talent (ahem, Miike Snow), and here’s another one to add to the Scandinavian roster: Niki and The Dove’s “DJ, East My Mind,” is simply smoking. The debut single from the Stockholm, Sweden band is so unique, that the band will easily carve out a niche for themselves [...]

Forget the fact that singer-songwriter Trevor “Trouble” Andrew’s forthcoming record, set to drop March 28, is titled Dreams of a Troubled Man. By all accounts this former Olympic snowboarder with the freshest sound in town is living the dream. Between festival appearances (the latest of which is today’s SXSW performance with Wu-Tang Clan), loyal fans [...]

It’s not everyday you come across Asian sisters that combine rap alongside gorgeous live violin melodies. All of which is exactly why you should pay attention to Korean American duo Knewdles + Sos of Misnomer(S). Springing up from the Buffalo suburbs and now based out of cool brownstone-heavy hood Bed-Stuy in Brooklyn, the twosome throws [...]

New York fashion week is set to kick off tomorrow and while prepping for the non-stop seven days ahead, we’ve been de-stressing with our favorite songs in the office. For that carefree, whirl-about-in-the-spring-sunshine, perfect-for-the -70s-revival kind of vibe, PJ Harvey is our chanteuse of choice. Her new album Let England Shake drops Feb. 15. This [...]

Archie Bronson Outfit is an intense band from the UK that has really come into their own in their latest album, Coconut. This album is filled with heavy guitar riffs, reverberating vocals and crazy electronic/techno sounds. Insert alien sounding, effected guitar solos and you have quite the album.

The Octopus Project (love the name) is an Austin based experimental indie/electronic band. Some of their stuff is akin to a more electronic Explosions in the Sky, but there is a lot more to them than that.

There might be something in the water at the Navy Yard, because Brooklyn based band Phosphorescent is onto something. Since debuting in 2007 with Pride, their break out album, they have been on our radar. Their futuristic country sound is enchanting and invigorating at the same time. Phosphorescent’s second album To Willie, was a dedication to the great [...]

A Living Soundtrack is an experimental band from New Orleans. They use an assortment of different instruments, and put the different sounds through a variety of effects to achieve their waking dream sounds. This album manages to be relaxing and at the same time completely engaging. It is generally a very peaceful album, one that [...]

To listen to The Bowery Riots is to take a sip from the cup of raw energy. To see them on stage is to take a drink of the same brew, but this time not from a cup but from a fire hose. The eclectic mix of rock & roll, punk and soul, with healthy serving [...]
